Row, Row, Row your Boat...

It was another early day today.  I think we have all been getting up earlier on vacation than we ever did for school or work!  Some way to relax....  The early mornings though are the best way to see things before it either gets too hot or the daily thunderstorms roll in.

We were on the road by 7:30am this morning on our way south to the little town of Canon City for our White Water rafting adventure down the Arkansas River.  While the main thrill of the Arkansas River is a trip through the Royal Gorge with its class IV rapids, we opted for the slightly tamer trip through Big Sheep Canyon.  Big Sheep has mostly class II and III rapids.   The great news, the water was running at twice the rate of a year ago, so we were afforded a wonderful 2 and a half hours on the river.  Sammi and the boys worked well together to help get us down the river and avoid the biggest rocks.  And at a couple of locations we could all jump into the 65 degree water to cool off.  There was even a spot where we hiked up above a rapid and floated back down it.

This trip today was rated a full 10 by all except Sammi who really wanted to go down through the gorge.  Below are some of the pictures from today.

Keeping with our theme of seeking out odd of the beaten path places, we stopped for a picture of the worlds largest Rocking Chair!  See below.
