It was a full day of excitement, fun and a little drama too.
The boys woke me up at 6:15am so we could get moving. Why? Because today was the day we visit the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. And this is no ordinary zoo, by any measure.
A few examples; It features the largest cat complex in North America; "Kingdoms of the Night" is the world's largest nocturnal exhibit and indoor swamp; the Lied Jungle is one of the world's largest indoor rain forests, and the "Desert Dome" is the world's largest indoor desert, as well as the largest glazed geodesic dome in the world (take a look at the picture from the outside and inside. you can see it from miles away.) Not to mention the authentic Steam Train that goes around the grounds and more.
This is by far Daniel's favorite zoo and maybe his favorite attraction next to the Georgia Aquarium. Both Daniel and Alex rated the Zoo a 10 out of 10. After 4 hours of walking around, they were both still going strong. We did take the sky tram to give my feet a rest, we rode it around 3 times. The boys made friends with the resident prairie dogs and a monkey or two as you can see below.
The only downside was on our way out. the zoo was full, so the parking lot was crowded. When we got back to the camper, some person had parked right in front of the motorhome leaving me with just 2 feet in front and about 2 feet in back to get out. With a little bit of finesse though I was able to work us free. It took a lot not to key the persons car...
The weather has most certainly been in our favor these past few days. It was actually chilly overnight and we needed no A/C for the 2 and a half hour drive from Newton to Omaha. Just blue sky and sunshine. It did warm up as the day went on, but probably just into the low 80's. Perfect.
On to poor Windsor. He's our dog for anyone who doesn't recall. He has had a bit of a stomach problem for the past 24 hours. Lets just say, we have had to stop frequently as we drive to let him out to go to the bathroom. Well after 24 hours, I decided it might be best to get him to a vet for a check up. The good news, the vet does not think its anything major, so he gave him some pills to help his "going problem." While I had the dog at the vet the boys did the dishes and cleaned and vacuumed the Motorhome. It was very nice to come back to a clean house.
Once back with the dog, we decided to head to the pool and use the jumping pillow and small zip line at the campground, but I was so disheveled I locked the camper and forgot to bring the key. Fortunately, Alex is on the smaller side, so we were able to hoist him through the small window over the sink to get him in to unlock the door.
Then, keys in hand we went off to the pool.
I'm a bit tired today.... Long day, so for now, it's good night from Omaha, Nebraska.
